NUVO State Fair video
I'm very proud of this.
'Stardust' is light, fluffy
So the other night I went out and caught Stardust, which is a fantasy picture based on a Neil Gaiman book. The last Neil Gaiman movie I'd seen was Mirrormask, which was kind of like Pan's Labrynth Lite.
So how does Stardust stack up? Behold my bullet-points:
- Sienna Miller is hotter than Claire Danes
- Thankfully, Roberto DiNiro does not break out into song
- Trust me, it's not possible to become a world-class fencer in less than a week
- Does the notion of a magical kingdom hidden in the middle of England strike anyone as derivative of Harry Potter?
- While we're at it, do a bunch of airships flying around strike anyone as derivative of Final Fantasy?
- Actually the whole airship sequence reminded me of Tailspin, the cartoon
- There's a shot where Michelle Pfeiffer is laughing and you can clearly see her real (white) teeth underneath her (yellow) false ones
Bullet-points aside, I enjoyed this movie. It's definitely on the light side — Chronicles of Narnia has more emotional depth — but for an airy fantasy romp, you could do worse.
