Every night I fall

The honeymoon is over. Tonight as I bit into my left-over Aver's Pizza breadstick and felt a distinct crunch. Probably nothing, I thought and went on chewing. Still there was crunching, so I reached in and felt around for something hard. This is what I found:

A staple! Which, of course, remided me of the following interaction from the late, great cartoon series Earthworm Jim from the episode when Jim found Excalibur in his hoagie.

Earthworm Jim: "This better not be like that time I found a magic staple in my coleslaw."
Peter Puppy: "That wasn't magic, Jim; the waiter just said that to shut you up."

You'll have to be seen

Since they still respect citizen's rights, the Canadian Government isn't making a whole lot of friends in the American government. In the State Department's annual report on global terrorism they write this:

"Some US law-enforcement officers have expressed concern that Canadian privacy laws, as well as funding levels for law enforcement, inhibit a fuller and more timely exchange of information and response to requests for assistance. Also, Canadian laws and regulations intended to protect Canadian citizens and landed immigrants from Government intrusion sometimes limit the depth of investigations."

Neat. Next thing you know the US will start trying to bully Canada into not decriminalizing marijuana by threatening trade restrictions.

What is your real name?

I just wanted to say that X2: X-Men United is awesome, awesome, awesome. It's only flaw is that it tacks on an un-needed ending sequence to tie up some strings that weren't even loose in the first place. Other than that incredibly minor quibble, the movie rules because, as anyone who's ever read a comic (or particularly an X-Men comic) knows, origin stories are rarely the best* and team origins are generally even worse. X2 doesn't waste any of its 147 minutes on bringing you up to speed on who these characters are, they just let them rip in what feels like a classic 5-part comic tale brought to life on the screen. See it.

Plus, the movie is written by David Hayer who provides the voice of Solid Snake, the character from that video game I was gushing about one post down.

*Spider-Man being the notable exception.

Don't let the sun down

Allow me to video game geek-out for just a minute: between Metroid Prime, Legend of Zelda, the forthcoming WrestleMania XIX, and that Splinter Cell game I want to pick up, I am already saying that the GameCube is the best console on the market... and today I read that the rumors are true and the original Metal Gear Solid is getting remade for the 'cube. Metal Gear Solid is already the greatest video game ever, so Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes-- with the gorgeous graphics of the otherwise mixed Solid 2 with the uncomparable plot and gameplay of the original-- should be even better.

That layer of dust on the PS2 is looking like it'll get even thicker.

Oh, and speaking of video games-- and to make this post at least somewhat interesting-- I give you this.
